Maerim Elephant Sanctuary - Half day
Maerim Elephant Sanctuary in Chiang Mai is an ethical elephant sanctuary 40 kilometers north of Chiang Mai. This cozy elephant sanctuary is an excellent choice for families with young children because of its location close to the city. Maerim Elephant Sanctuary has five elephants rescued from riding camps, circuses, and illegal logging work.
You will spend a half-day in the morning or afternoon observing, feeding, bathing, and walking in the jungle with the elephants. Join the elephants for a short hike to the river and enjoy a bath with them. Our guides will explain to you where the elephants come from and how to take care of these intelligent animals.
You will learn how to cook authentic Thai noodle soup for lunch or dinner.
Children 3 to 6 years of age pay only an 800 Baht entrance fee. Children 1 to 2 years of age can join the trip for free.
Itinerary & Practicalities
Price: 1600 THB
Pick up from your hotel between 7:00 am – 7:30 am (morning program) or pick up from your hotel between 2:00 pm – 2:30 pm (afternoon program).
Drive approximately 45 minutes from Chiang Mai to Maerim Elephant Sanctuary.
Arrive and change into traditional Karen mahout clothing.
Greet the elephants with your basket of bananas.
Play with our elephant family while you learn about their behavior and past.
Walk in the jungle along a stream surrounded by nature and local farms.
Bathe the elephants and play with them in the water.
Learn how to make your own traditional noodle soup.
Relax and enjoy the sun at our swimming pool.
Leave the sanctuary and drive back to Chiang Mai.
Return to your hotel around 1 - 1:30 pm (morning program) or 8 - 8:30 pm (afternoon
program).
Included in the price: Transportation, lunch or dinner, water, insurance, an experienced local tour guide, and food for the elephants.
What to bring: Bathing suit, towel, mosquito spray, sunscreen, and flip flops.
